Insert and edit Flash (.swf), Windows Media, and other media files

You insert Flash SWF files (*.swf file extension) and Windows Media files (*.asf, *.wm, *wma, *wmv, *.wmd, and others) into a web page in Microsoft Expression Web by using either the Toolbox task pane or the Insert menu. For information about the file formats supported by the Windows Media Player, see Windows Media Player multimedia file formats on the Microsoft website.

You can also insert these and other types of media by typing code in the Code view of the web page. For information on the current web standards for adding media files to web pages, see the heading "Generic inclusion: the OBJECT element" in the topic Objects, Images, and Applets on the World Wide Web Consortium.

Note

When you open a web page that contains media other than Flash SWF or Windows Media, you may receive a warning that the page contains an unknown or unsigned ActiveX control. For more information, see Security and ActiveX controls.
